Name of Historic Site: W.C. Sheldon Magnetic Mineral Springs
Description of Historic Site: In 1871 Willard C. Sheldon discovered sparkling water at the corner of Washington and Third St. He immediately built a sanitarium type building for people who wanted to come and take the water. Water from this spring was said to cure ailments of the stomach and was said to be so heavily charged with magnetism that if you left a pocket knife in the water for a few minutes it would attract steel. In 1905 the building was torn down and replaced with the post office. In 1970 the post office was razed and Security First Bank (now Fifth Third) was built.
