Name of Historic Site: Michigan Bell Telephone Building/AT&T
Description of Historic Site: The building was built in 1929 and housed the Michigan Bell Telephone Company. The first telephone operators came to Holland in 1886 and the first telephone came to Holland in 1883. Operators continued to work in Holland until 1977 when they were replaced by a centralize location in Grand Rapids. The first long distant line was put in Holland in 1884 it linked Holland to Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Ionia, and Grand Haven.
