Description of Historic Site: John Butler Johnson was a prominent dean of the college of Engineering in the University of Wisconsin. A graduate in engineering from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Mr. Johnson along with O.S. Simmons a prominent landscaper from Chicago had a summer home in Pier Cove. It is here where the families would take summer holidays together. On June 23, 1902 Mr. Johnson fell off the wagon carrying the families’ goods and died instantly.
